About Bay View Heights & Home Sales

Mobile home with flag pole

Bay View Heights & Home Sales Manufactured Home Community was created in 1968 by two men with a vision for affordable housing close to Madison, Wisconsin. One of the two men was Chuck Barber. Chuck owned and operated a farm along Highway 51 directly across from Lake Kegonsa near Stoughton, Wisconsin. That farm is where Bay View Heights & Home Sales mobile home park is now located.

The second man is L. Norman Schweiss. Norm was the owner of Norm's Mobile Homes, which was one of the state's largest mobile home dealerships for many, many years. With the costs of living growing rapidly, together they saw the need for affordable housing in Dane County. When Bay View Heights & Home Sales mobile home park was first built near Stoughton, there were 53 home sites. Over the years, Bay View Heights & Home Sales has grown to the 220 mobile home sites that it is today.

As time has passed, Chuck and Norm's children now run and operate Bay View Heights & Home Sales Manufactured Home Community. Over that time, there have been many changes to the community. One of the biggest changes has to be the size of the homes. When the park was built, the typical mobile home width was 12 feet. However, Chuck and Norm had the foresight to make the lots larger than most other mobile home communities. As a result of their forward thinking, even the oldest sections of the mobile home park can accommodate today's larger manufactured homes.
